BAC End Sequencing
The CHORI-243 BAC Library was created in Pieter de Jong's laboratory at BACPAC Resources in 2002 and a detailed description and methods to access that library are available on line.
AgResearch, MLA, USDA and USU contributed the funding for the project.
Briefly, the library consists of 203,000 recombinant clones with an average insert size of 184kb and represents approximately a 12-14X coverage of the ovine genome.
The animal used was a Texel ram provided by Tim Smith of USDA Clay Centre Nebraska. The animal was approximately 14% inbred and a photograph of the ram is shown below.
